Island Road is a large older brick home situated on three levels, on a large two acre parcel of land in a semi-residential area of Scarborough. With five large bedrooms, a large kitchen and dining room, offices, school classroom, indoor and outdoor recreation areas, the program provides residential treatment for 9 male youth in this Open Detention / Open Custody facility. Cedar Brook is a 4 level home with 5 bedrooms located in the East York area of Toronto. Cedar Brook is one of only two female facilities in the Central Region providing open custody / open detention services. There are specialized female only programs provided at this site.
All programs are highly structured and include a Section 23 classroom and Board of Education teacher on site. Our Open Custody / Open Detention residential facilities engages with youth to prevent crime by addressing the circumstances underlying a young person’s offending behaviour, to rehabilitate young persons who commit offences and reintegrate them into society, and to ensure that a young person is subject to meaningful consequences for his or her offence in order to promote the long-term protection of the public. This is accomplished by our trained correctional worker staff, in addition to our internal support services, and by collaborative efforts with outside resources. The program also diligently focuses on preparing the youth to be more self sufficient and less dependent on the social service system. The Fernie House administrative office is located at Island Road, occupying half of the upper level.
